Hand Drawing in a Foreshortened View
Summative
RATIONAL:
Drawing from life requires an understanding of what and how we see. To draw form life you need to develop certain skills. First we will focus on the ability to analyze and interpret forms as they appear in perspective. We will look at how those forms look in relation to one another. Finally we will practice identifying contours which are caused by changes in value. Using time tested techniques and technologies we will uncover the secrets to drawing in objects in foreshortened views.
OBJECTIVES:
• Students will create an object from life in a foreshortened view.
• Students will apply the drawing of basic forms to aide in constructing complex forms.
• Students will create gradation to enhance illusion of form and depth.
• Students will construct balanced compositions.
VISUAL ART STANDARDS:
COMMON CORE STANDARDS:
STEAM CONNECTIONS:
• Students will be introduced to Optics.
• Students will learn about the early uses of lenses.
Material: Graphite sticks and assorted drawing pencils
Concept(s): Life drawing, perspective, and value.
Formative(s): 1.Blind Contour and Continuous Contour Hand Drawing 2. Sphere Study 3.Cylinder Study
Vocabulary: Foreshortening, Distortion, Perspective, Orthogonal lines, Value, Blending, Gradation, and Contrast.
